***spoiler alert*****
I asked Hayden what he thought of the movie and the conversation that followed was priceless. What is more important, greatness or goodness? What does greatness mean in the eyes of the world vs the eyes of our Father in Heaven? How important is it to have a heart full of goodness? In the end, is it better to be filled with greatness or goodness?
I love how that boy of mine thinks. I love how he processes and analyzes everything. I love that he is getting old enough that these simple questions can lead to hours of intellectual conversations.
It was fun to ask Hayden to name people who he though were filled with goodness, greatness and both. The conversation quickly turned to what qualities in a person makes them good or great.
Without help, Hayden summed it up as follows. "A person could do the same thing with different reasons and the result would be different." He added, "it all pretty much comes down to this. If you do something to truly help someone else or do something because you know it is what Jesus wants you to do, then it is because of true goodness way deep down in your heart." He thought for a moment and added, "I think that what truly makes someone great is that they do good things not for the credit but because they really want to make others lives better. Then that person can do great things because they are filled with goodness."
You, Hayden Murphy, are destined for greatness! I have complete faith that you will always take hold of the good and and do the right. I love you, my sweet son.
